What Is The Difference Between Grated And Cheese?

Cheese is one of the most popular dairy products, and it is a chief food in many kitchens. Cheese is derived from milk, usually the milk of cows, buffalo, goat, or sheep. Cheese is produced and used in a wide range of flavours, textures and forms, for example, Shredded Cheese and Grated Cheese.

Shredded cheese can be made with mostcheeses, such as cheddar, Edam, mozzarella cheese, Monterey Jack, and Asadero. You can easily find packed shredded cheese in the market, my favourite is Mexican Shredded Cheese Blend by Pure Dairy, and it is the perfect blend of Natural Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Asadero and Queso Quesadilla. It is a perfect cheese for nachos, burritos, fries and all the Mexican cuisines. These ingredients help to keep the cheese shreds separate as they have anti-clumping and desiccating properties. Shredded Cheese melts slower than grated cheese, making them perfect topping while baking.

On the other hand, grated cheese is made up of hard agedRomano cheese or parmesan cheese, and it is mostly used as a topping on pasta, pizza, or salads. Grated cheese can easily be bought from the market, or you can manually grate it at home using a hand grater. Grated cheese is finer than shredded cheese, and reacts differently than shredded cheese in recipes.

Difference between Shredded Cheese and Grated Cheese

Below are some of the significant differences between shredded cheese and grated cheese:

Shredded Cheese is the type of cheese that undergoes the surface of a shredder, whereas grated cheese is the cheese that undergoes the process of the grating.

Shredded Cheese is just like the thin pieces of cheese, it is either shredded into thick or thinstripes, the thinner is known as finely shredded cheese.

The shredded cheese block is soft, the cheese block used to make shredded cheese is not aged, the grated cheese block is hard and also aged.

The shredded cheese block is kept in the freezer for about an hour;conversely, the grated cheese is not refrigerated.

Shredded cheese is made up of mozzarella, cheddar cheese, and Mexican cheeses like Natural Cheddar, Monterey Jack, Asadero, and Queso Quesadilla, while, grated cheese is made up of Romano and parmesan cheese.

Shredded cheese can be made with the grater. On the other hand, to make a grated cheese food processor, a Microplane, and a box grater are required.

Shredded cheese usually melts slowly, and grated cheese melts fast.

Shredded cheese can be used in making mac and cheese, in baking casserole and it is also used as a topping, while grated cheese is commonly used as a topping on salads, pizzas, or pasta.

Shredded cheese and grated cheese have quite a lot of differences, but there is one common thing they both taste delicious if used correctly.
