Pontoons are special types of boats, so do they require a special dock builder? Is there a special type of boat dock for a pontoon? Here’s what you need to know.

Pontoons Use the Same Type of Dock

A dock is really a simple structure – it’s just a flat platform that you attach a boat to. With that in mind, a pontoon boat is going to use the same type of dock as another type of boat, and you don’t need to do anything to your dock in order to compensate for a pontoon. Docking a pontoon isn’t necessarily as easy as docking a regular boat.

Docking a Pontoon Boat

Since pontoon boats steer differently and are more cumbersome than a traditional boat, you may need a little time to get used to docking one. To dock a pontoon boat, you need to approach the dock very slowly and take it a little at a time.

If you aren’t used to your pontoon yet, you may want to spend some time maneuvering it in open water before you try to get it closer to the dock. It’s also easier to have someone assist you from the dock itself, much like having someone guide you if you’re parallel parking a car.

In addition to having help, consider reversing into the dock rather than driving straight in, as it can give you some additional control. Ultimately, it’ll be all about practice.

Regardless of the type of boat you want, it’s time to get a dock. A dock will help you keep your boat safe while also improving its convenience.
