Purpose of submarine communication cables
To carry telecommunications signals across stretches of ocean and sea, a submarine communication cable is laid between the sea bed and land-based stations. Communication undersea covering hundreds of kilometres wouldn’t be possible. Over recent years, best cable modem for xfinity and also use optical fibre technology to carry digital data for telephone, internet and private data traffic over a long distance.
These underwater cables are installed in specific ways. They use boats for cable installation undersea, these are known as cable-layers. Submarine cables are a load down by using specific ships that carry the submarine cable on board and slowly lay it out seabed as per the plans gave by the cable. These board ships can carry with them up to 2000km length of the cable. Submarine communication cables are faster and relatively cheap than Satellites.
There are around 420 submarine underwater cables in service, stretching from 70,000 miles around the world. This is how communication is transmitted with the help of submarine cables and multi stranded wires undersea. International data across the world is transmitted by wires at the bottom of the ocean. Wires such as multi-stranded wire are used for this purpose.
How do submarine communicate:
Recent technology has been developed that enables submerged submarine cables to communicate with aeroplanes. An underwater cable transmitter uses a speaker pointed upward to the surface. This transmitter sends multichannel sound signals, which travels as pressure waves. Through this process communication takes places by underwater cables across the world.
Why under water cables are used?
Underwater cables are used for power application where it is impractical, difficult or dangerous to use the overhead lines. These under water cables have more advantages than overhead lines. These underwater cables have low voltage drops, low chance of developing issues and low maintenance costs.
Single and multi-stranded wiring for cables:
Single-stranded wiring:
1: Single-stranded wiring type is typically less expensive to manufactures when compared to multi-standard wires as it does not require as much processing.
2: Single-stranded wire is not as flexible as the alternative. This lack of flexibility will lead to wire snapping. Thus, single standard wires are best suited for products that don’t encounter much movement
3: Single-stranded wire is used in small gauge wiring applications.
Multi stranded wiring:
1: Multi stranded wiring has a bigger cost does to the need for more number of extrusion and stranding
2: Multi stranded wiring is more flexible.
3: The increased surface area of Multi stranded wiring conductor decreases the amount of resistance that current or signal passing through the wire.
4: This type of wiring is better suited for use with an application that requires a crimp connector
Thus, multi-standard wires come with similar specifications. The stands can be of different material such as copper and aluminium mostly used for electrification. 95% of international data is transmitted by wires at the bottom of the ocean. Wires such as multi-stranded wire are used for this purpose. These are the main purpose of underwater cables and multi stranded wires for undersea communication.
