Things To Do In Montreal
From music festivals featuring some of the biggest bands in the world today to centuries-old landmarks, Montreal is everything except boring. This is a beautiful cosmopolitan city that features an eclectic mix of old European charm and contemporary lifestyle.
It is often referred to as the “Paris of Canada,” and it won’t take you long to figure out why. In fact, Montreal is one of the liveliest cities in North America with astonishing architecture and a haven for sports fans, shopaholics, and foodies. So, are you planning to visit Montreal soon?
Here are a few things that should be on your to-do list.
Make Your Way up the Mont-Royal
This small and beautiful hill sits to the west of Downtown Montreal between the Laurentian and the Appalachian Mountains. The Mont-Royal hills are part of the famous Mount Royal Park which is a magnificent Park that serves as a great tourist attraction site.
You can cycle or hike up the winding path to the hilltop for incredible views of the city. The magnificent views that you will enjoy span beyond the city of Montreal to the St Lawrence River.
If you are visiting the city in summer, be sure to head to Mont-Royal on a Sunday so that you can watch the “Tam Tam Jam” as well.
Visit Old Montreal
Old Montreal is named so since it is the oldest neighborhood in the city and it hosts the site where Montreal was first established in early 1642. Its ancient streets scream of Europe evident through the many horse-drawn carriages that take visitors through the maze of attractions.
But, don’t be tempted to think that this is a neighborhood for senior citizens. The streets here scream of youth and constant excitement. People stream into this area to walk, bike, shop, and even boat the amazing Old Port waterfront.
When the nightfall arrives, you can enter any of the modern restaurants that line the streets and enjoy your dinner or a drink. During winter, thousands of locals and non-locals don snowsuits and fill the harbor for an annual outdoor electronic music festival.
Take a Food Tour
Montreal is also a foodie city with numerous modern restaurants lining up in the streets. The culinary experience here is a unique blend of culinary classics from different cultures. The locals love to treat themselves to night outs that come with sumptuous meals.
Montreal has more restaurants per capita than most cities in North America. After a long day, take your time to enjoy dinner at a Montreal Italian Restaurant and experience the difference. There are lots of food tours to choose from in Montreal, and you won’t fail to find something that excites you.
Montreal Museum of Fine Arts
This is Montreal’s most prestigious museum, and it has been building its collection for over 150 years. Don’t miss the incredible opportunity to feast your eye on an array of unique Canadian and international works including beautiful art pieces from renowned artists such as Renoir, Picasso, Greco, and Cezanne.
The museum also houses artifacts from World War I and a few magnificent pieces of furniture that were designed by Frank Gehry. Tourists who have been here described the exhibits as “outstanding” and “something out of this world.”
All of them admit that the experience is worth the admission fee. Plan to spend a few hours at this museum if you have time and even take a meal in the restaurant located within the museum.
