Obtaining a pharmacist degree can be done online and offline. There’s a process that students must follow to graduate and begin a career in pharmacy. Many pharmacists start off as pharmacy technicians that only require a short program to become certified prior to becoming pharmacists. Others just go straight to pharmacy school and learn through clinical and classroom training.
For those that may want to do half of their schooling online and half offline, they can start by obtaining their Bachelor of Science degree through a school that is accredited. Obtaining a bachelor’s degree is the first step in both processes whether a student chooses to start off online. Students need to make sure that the bachelor’s program they choose offers at least a couple of years in pre-pharmacy as well as chemistry, biology, sociology, and physics. There are some pharmacy schools that may just require students to take their pre-recs without getting a bachelor’s degree.
The next step would be to obtain a doctorate degree in pharmacy. There are online school options that will allow students to go through the entire pharmacy schooling process if interested. These programs combine clinical studies and coursework assignments online. To attend a doctorate degree program, students must first take and pass the Pharmacy College Admission Test. The test consists of 232 questions and takes about 4 hours to complete. This test measures a student’s reading comprehension and verbal ability skills. Once students take this test, they can enter the PharmD program to obtain their doctorates degree. There are online PharmD programs for both new students and practicing pharmacists. This program can take about 4 years to complete which will allow a student to move on to the Naplex test. There are Naplex practice questions students can answer and use as a study guide in the preparation for the real test.
Students will take courses in medicinal chemistry, pathophysiology, patient care, and biopharmaceuticals while enrolled in the PharmD program. There are also clinical in which students must partake in which allows students to gain direct experience in a pharmacy under the guide of a licensed pharmacist. Once this program is complete and student graduates, they will be able to obtain their license to begin work as a pharmacist. This is where the Naplex test comes into play. This test must be passed in order to obtain a license. Depending on the state that the student lives in, they may need to take an additional exam on top of the Naples exam. A student must score a certain percentage to pass this test. It is important for students to study using Naplex practice questions. This exam is known as the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination. Students will gain knowledge about federal and state laws within the pharmacy world by taking this exam. A criminal background check will also be required. Pharmacists can choose to work within their own community, or even for the government. Salary also ranges depending on experience and work location.
Even if a student were to obtain their bachelor’s and doctorate’s online, the actual Naplex test may have to be done in person. The good news is that students are given the convenience of going to school online especially if they are living busy lives and have no time to take classes on campus. This can be also beneficial for those students who do not live nearby a school that offer pharmacy programs. There are many resources online that students can use to find potential pharmacy schools that they can enroll in. It’ll all pay off in the end.
