1) A common mistake that some make is not figuring in the traffic flow. Sometimes a site gets more traffic than it realizes. This happens sometimes when a site is in the first few weeks of its launch.

Site users need to consider the amount of traffic their site could potentially see. Sometimes a site booms with traffic and then it dies down a little bit before it goes back up. There is a lot of ebbing and flowing when it comes to site traffic. Site users like to blame the hosting company when their site goes down. The finger-pointing game is another problem people have. They are so busy pointing the finger at others when they should be looking into what they have done wrong.

Users should make some room in the beginning, and then adjust as the numbers go up and down. The last thing a person wants is for their site to shut down when a client is in the middle of making a purchase.

2) Users also need to think about the language barrier. Some people do not speak English as a primary language. There could be some Chinese or Japanese people who are doing coding online, and they want to use the site. Site owners need to make sure sites are equipped to deal with the different languages out there.

It may be in a person’s best interest to hire a language interpreter to make the transition a bit easier.

3) Say the person the site owner hires asks for payment before they do the job. Did the person ask for a down payment first? Did they ask for the entire payday before they start?

It is not a good idea to pay the person in full before they start designing. Others have done that, in the past, and have paid the price. The person stops returning phone calls and does not show for work. It happens a lot in the industry. That is why site owners need to be sure they hire someone who asks for only a small portion before they begin.

4) Does the person have referrals or do they infer that they do? Site owners need to see an actual list of referrals and be able to contact them. Someone can have a “bunch” of five-star ratings on their site, but that could be where it ends. Chuck goes to check out the reviews on other sites and finds nothing on the person.

Chuck is better off not hiring the person.

5) Sometimes a deal can seem too good to be true.

Chuck sees an ad for $300. He decides to buy into it because it is cheaper than others he has seen. Chuck then finds that his site goes down each time he uploads something to the page. He calls the company, and they charge him to fix the problem.

Chuck keeps having issues after issues on his site. Every time he makes a call to have it fixed the company charges him more money.
